Overview

In the past two weeks, the Ontario Legislature, House of Commons, and Senate all met. The calendar was as follows:

  • Senate: November 1-2 and 7-9, 2017
  • House of Commons: October 30-31, 2017 and November 6-10, 2017
  • Ontario Legislature: November 6-9 and November 13, 2017

While all legislative changes and progress potentially impacts First Nations, there are two major highlights to note.

The biggest legislative event was Bill 175, Safer Ontario Act, 2017 moved to First Reading. A more detailed analysis of the proposed legislation can be found here. The second event was Bill 174, Cannabis, Smoke-Free Ontario and Road Safety Statute Law Amendment Act, 2017 was moved to second reading.
